Fire Protection Doors

Safeguarding lives, preventing devastation

Halt the fire’s advance

Steel fire protection doors, also known as fire-rated steel doors, are a critical component of a building’s fire safety system. These doors are designed to prevent the spread of fire and smoke within a building, protecting people and property. They can control the spread of fire for up to three hours, providing crucial time for occupants to evacuate and for fire services to respond.

Meeting fire safety standards

The Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) underlines the significance of fire doors as part of a building’s passive fire protection system. They not only impede the spread of fire but often smoke as well. These doors are engineered to remain closed during a fire, typically either self-closing or locked shut.

Continual maintenance is highlighted by the DHF as being vital to the sustained performance of both fire doors and escape doors. In 2012, the DHF, in conjunction with the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI), produced a “Code of Practice for Fire & Escape Doors,” a document that remains relevant today and can be accessed at www.firecode.org.uk.
