Prior to the Fire Safety Act 2021, fire doors in multi-occupied buildings may not have been routinely considered as part of the fire risk assessment process. However, The Fire Safety Act 2021 has removed the legal ambiguity and confirms that fire doors are in scope of the Fire Safety Order.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 highlights the importance of keeping fire doors in safe working condition. Building owners and managers (The Responsible Person's) have a duty to ensure compliance, helping to reduce fire risks and maintain safety standards.
According to BS 9999: Code of practice for fire safety in the design, management and use of building inspections should be carried out every 6 months. Whereas the Fire Safety Order and the Fire Safety Act make it a legal responsibility to regularly inspect your fire doors.
