Our fire shutters are engineered to contain fire and smoke within designated compartments, giving occupants time to evacuate and emergency services time to respond. Each fire shutter in our ArrowGuard range is tested and certified by Warringtonfire and we issue a Declaration of Performance with every installation.
Arrow manufacture fire shutters in a range of configurations to suit any opening - from large warehouse doorways to smaller servery hatch and countertop applications in hospitals, schools and retail premises. Every fire rated roller shutter is built to order at our UK facility and installed by our own engineers.
A fire shutter works as a passive fire protection barrier. In the event of a fire, the shutter is activated by the building's fire alarm system and performs a controlled descent to seal the opening, preventing the spread of fire and smoke between compartments.
Activation methods
Fire alarm interface - Connected to the existing fire alarm system via an interface panel, triggering a powered or gravity-controlled closure
Fusible link - A failsafe for buildings without a centralised alarm system. When temperature reaches a critical threshold, the link breaks and releases the shutter
Battery backup - Ensures the fire shutter door will close even during a mains power failure
Every ArrowGuard fire shutter includes an audio and visual warning system as standard - a critical health and safety requirement in high-traffic environments.
Industrial and warehouse
Our industrial fire shutters suit larger openings of up to 7000mm x 7000mm in factories, distribution centres and loading bays. These fire roller shutters combine everyday security and fire protection in a single roller shutter door system. For openings where thermal efficiency is also a priority, our insulated roller shutters offer additional heat retention.
Retail and commercial
Fire shutters seal corridors, back-of-house areas and stock rooms in shopping centres and retail premises. Our security shutter range addresses the dual need for security and fire protection. Where certified attack resistance is required, our LPS 1175 rated shutters provide enhanced physical security alongside fire safety.
Servery hatch and countertop
Smaller fire shutters protect servery hatches in hospitals, schools and commercial kitchens. These units feature compact barrel assemblies and shutter curtains constructed from 55mm flat lath sections for a neat, unobtrusive finish suited to smaller openings.
New build and refurbishment
Whether installing fire shutters on a new build or retrofitting them into an existing building, our specification service ensures the right product for every opening. We integrate fire shutters into the wider fire and smoke control strategy alongside main contractors and facilities managers.
Fire shutters must be included in your building's regular maintenance schedule to remain compliant with fire safety regulations. We recommend a minimum of two service visits per year.
What our maintenance visits cover
Activation testing - Full test of descent sequence and fire alarm system interface
Curtain and channel inspection - Shutter curtain, side channels and seals checked for wear
Battery and safety brake - Backup system and anti-fall device verified
Compliance documentation - Service report issued and fire plan records updated
When choosing the right roller shutters for fire protection, consider the fire resistance level required by your fire plan, the method of activation, and whether you need smoke and fire seals or integration with your alarm system. Roller shutters provide a cost-effective alternative to fire curtain systems or fire doors for larger openings, combining everyday security with passive fire protection in a single installation.
The ArrowGuard 240v Tube Motor fire shutter is designed for smaller openings and servery applications where a compact, unobtrusive installation is essential. The 240v AC tubular motor is concealed within the barrel assembly, and the shutter curtains are constructed from sections of 55mm flat lath, allowing for a more compact barrel that reduces the headroom requirement above the opening.
In the event of a fire, the interface relay panel - connected to the fire alarm - enables the actuation of a powered controlled descent. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and battery backup unit ensures that when the fire alarm system is activated, the shutter will close even if there is a mains power failure. A push button station or key switch provides normal, everyday operation.
This fire shutter is the ideal choice for applications which require a neat installation, including schools, hospitals, commercial kitchens and retail servery counters.
The ArrowGuard Fire Door Drive variant utilises an inboard mounted 1ph~240v or 3ph~415v fire door operator, making it suitable for larger openings of up to 7000mm x 7000mm - the maximum certifiable dimensions for a fire rated shutter. A standard feature within the design is an anti-fall device (safety brake) at the non-drive end of the barrel, which will prevent the door from dropping in the unlikely event of a mechanical or electrical failure.
Upon receipt of a fire signal from the fire alarm system, the door automatically performs a close cycle. The closure is actuated via the motor-mounted, auto-reset solenoid, which releases the brake on the gearbox and allows for a controlled descent of the shutter under gravity. Alternatively, the door can be interfaced with a fire control panel (at extra cost) which will drive the door down under a powered closure.
In the event of a mains power failure, or when the fire alarm is unable to produce the required 24v DC power signal, the battery backup system within the control panel energises the auto-reset solenoid to ensure the door will close under gravity. A push button station with Open / Stop / Close buttons provides normal, everyday operation.
