Saint Gobain Dock Levellers
Arrow work with a global name in Saint Gobain, to support a £3.9m project
This 75,000 sq ft purpose-built facility, on Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), was pre-let to a premium worldwide car manufacturer for manufacturing carbon fibre car chassis. With a total project value over £10m, the exacting standards demanded by both the architect and the client, provided Arrow the opportunity to showcase our project management and customer service skills.
Initially our design team were asked to provide technical drawings and specifications for our proposal. With constant communication between our technical department and the architect, we collaborated on the ideal solution that would not only fit their design brief, but also met with our technical brief of helping to keep costs to a minimum, reducing lost heat during a period of turbulent energy prices.
Arrow offered up a single door that allows for fast acting operation combined with insulation, where traditionally 2 doors were required. With operating speeds of up to 1.1m per second and u-values approx 1.8 W/m2k, this provided a door that is suitable for intensive logistic traffic and heat retention. The specially designed spiral system and chain drive meant that no back hanging is required in comparison to a traditional sectional door.
The features of this particular door include a fast opening speed, light curtain sensors and offers low maintenance which provides cost reductions in the long run. In this occasion the door was fitted with radar activation, but it can also be provided with induction loop or radio remote activation also.
In addition, Arrow were also tasked with designing and installing 3 sectional doors, 5 fire shutters and 4 steel doorsets.
Over a planned installation period of 4 weeks, our teams worked diligently, being commended in particular for our adherence to best health and safety practices as well as delivering a complete install within the timeframe required.
This project also had an extra pressure in that the site was to be officially opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales. As you can see from the images, the site is modern, stylish and a true compliment to the high brand it houses.
