Commercial Estimator – Scotland

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a desk-based Estimator with strong commercial ability to join our regional operations team. This role is ideally suited to an experienced Estimator, Internal Sales Estimator, Commercial Coordinator or technically minded service professional looking to progress within a growing engineering business.

The successful candidate will work closely with Regional Management, Service Coordination teams and customers to prepare accurate quotations, review commercial opportunities and support profitable growth across the region. While some site visits may be required, the role is primarily office based, focusing on estimating, customer liaison and commercial support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate quotations, cost estimates, technical proposals and scope of works documentation for industrial doors, loading bay systems, gates, barriers and automatic entrance systems
  • Review customer enquiries, drawings, specifications and service recommendations to develop commercially viable solutions
  • Assess repair, replacement and upgrade opportunities, ensuring quotations are technically sound and commercially competitive
  • Work closely with Regional Managers, Service Coordinators and Engineers to obtain the information required to price works accurately
  • Liaise with customers to clarify requirements, discuss options and help convert opportunities into orders
  • Identify opportunities for additional works, upgrades, maintenance services and margin improvement
  • Support regional sales and service operations through technical and commercial input on bids, tenders and customer proposals
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and ensure all quotation details are clearly handed over to operational teams
  • Assist with resolving technical, pricing and commercial queries in a professional and timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, health & safety standards and industry regulations when preparing estimates and documentation
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, colleagues and suppliers
  • Maintain accurate records using Microsoft Office and internal operational systems

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in estimating, internal sales, commercial coordination, technical support or a similar office-based role
  • Industrial door industry experience would be highly advantageous, although candidates from related engineering, construction or building products sectors will also be considered
  • Experience producing quotations, pricing schedules, specifications and technical documentation
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical accuracy, profitability and customer requirements
  • Confident communicator with strong customer service and relationship-building skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple enquiries and priorities effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Solution-focused with a proactive and professional approach
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with operational, sales and service teams
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Full UK driving licence preferred for occasional site visits
